There are many options available depending on whether you are looking for a pet-friendly vacuum or a robot to work with your other vacuum.

1. Eufy RoboVac Edge G30

The G30 Edge, the latest model in Eufy’s budget-friendly series of robotic vacuum cleaners is the most up-to-date model. The G30 Edge is a shiny black vacuum cleaner, with rose gold and blue accents. It does a very good job of picking up pet hair and crumbs from hard floors, but it falls in comparison to the best models when it comes to scooping up flour on carpet. In our tests, the G30 Edge missed 74% of the dust on hard floors and 26 percent on carpets which is a bit disappointing.

A feature that makes the G30 Edge stand out is its ability to map your home with a digital map within the app. This allows it to keep track of which rooms it has already cleaned, and to avoid returning to these rooms. This is a major problem for more basic robots who require the traditional magnetic taps to mark no go zones.

The G30 Edge has other conveniences that include a 'Find My Robot' mode that plays an ominous tune until it's found and a directional pad that allows users to manually move the robot. It also comes with an auto return function that can send it back to its charging base when the battery is low, an important security feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape robot is a robust machine that comes with a long list of intelligent features. It is able to clean floors well, and it can climb on high-pile carpet fairly easily. The app offers advanced features such as boundary lines remote access to the robot as it is operating and a variety of other options.

This model is the most recent in a long line of Neato robots and is distinguished by its unique "D" shape when seen from above. This design has several advantages, including better corner cleaning and a bigger bin of dust than most other models. The D-shape design allows the robot to get under furniture better than robots with a circular shape.

The D-Shape will briefly pause before starting a cleaning cycle to use spinning infrared to scan and assess the area. Then, it will work in a grid, systematically moving from one area to the next until the entire floor is covered. This method of cleaning is much more efficient and thorough than the random approach employed by other companies.

The d-shape design also allows the D-Shape to have a larger dust bin, with 700ml, compared to 400- 600ml for comparable robots. The increased capacity means you'll need to empty the bin less often, which will save you time and effort. The D-Shape also has a flat front that helps it navigate around obstacles like chairs and tables. In our tests the D-Shape was stuck under a four-legged stool as well as an electrical cord that was exposed however it was able to break free every time.

3. Roomba I3+ EV

The Roomba EVO i3+ is an excellent option for pet owners. It does well on hard floors and does a fantastic job of cleaning up any particles like cereal, rice and hair of pets. It struggles on carpet, but is still better than other robots in this price range. The Roomba i3+ EVO is also very efficient at transferring between floor types and doesn't get hung on transitions like older generations can. The i3+ EVO's obstacle avoidance isn't as strong as some of the other robots we tested and it repeatedably hit objects in our tests, such as handbags, shoes and pet toys prior to continuing on its path. It cleaned and maneuvered exceptionally well in a space which had a mix of carpets with low pile as well as floors that were bare and a mixture of both. The vacuum also does a good job of picking up pet hair on carpeting but it's not equipped with the same power as our top selections.

The Roborock S4 Max, however, is more durable, recharges faster than the Shark and has a greater selection of automation features and scheduling options, including support for "no-go zones". Shark is still a great choice if you want something less expensive or prefer to manage and control your system via your smartphone instead of the remote.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and wet

It's not easy to find a machine that combines vacuuming and mopping This one does exactly that. The two-tank system used by this robot lets it mop or vacuum at the touch of the button. In our tests it was able effortlessly switch between surfaces and was great at cleaning pet fur from hardwood floors and carpets. It also comes with an edge-sweeping tool for removing hairs from baseboards and walls.

This robot is another solid pick if you want an affordable model with some extra features. It was able to navigate obstacles with ease during our tests and is controlled via an app or voice. It has a huge dust bin to collect messes before they're filled. The only downside is that it could take up to 166 minutes to complete its task, but that's still better than other robots we've examined.

The main feature of this robot is its front-facing camera that lets you monitor the cleanliness of your home on an interactive map within the app. This is particularly useful when you're trying to find a particular item or if your kids have spilled glitter from your decorations all over your floor. You can avoid a lot frustration by finding the lost item immediately. Plus the battery is not fade-proof and can last for up to 130 minutes on a single charge.

It also has trouble collecting pet hair from all surfaces.

The 694 is better than its competitors despite the limited features. It scored an excellent score in our cereal-carpet test and passed our cat-litter test with only a few stray pieces of litter left behind. It's less efficient on hardwood floors. Its side brush often scatters large, clinging pieces of cereal instead of vacuuming them up. It also had trouble collecting table salt on a unfinished floor, as lots of grains slid across the floor.

It supports voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant through an external device (sold separately). It learns your cleaning habits and gives you a customized schedule. Cliff Detect and an edge-sweeping brush ensure it gets into difficult-to-access corners. Dirt Detect sensors alert it to areas that are heavily soiled. The battery lasts for about 60 minutes and comes with an automatic emptying of the dust bin. The more expensive iRobot J7 comes with a more sophisticated set of features and is more stable on all surfaces. It also feels more robust and has a bigger dust bin that charges faster, and navigates obstacles like electrical cords with ease.
